Why use a virtual camera with PRISM Live Studio?
PRISM Live Studio has its own creative tools, and many streamers like its scene and platform workflow. But if you want one consistent camera look that can also be used in OBS, FreecShot, recording apps, or meetings, a virtual camera is easier to reuse.
With CiCi Cam upstream, PRISM only needs to receive a normal camera feed:
- Build your beauty preset outside PRISM.
- Select CiCi Cam as a device in PRISM.
- Keep scene composition separate from face processing.
- Reuse the same camera look in other compatible apps.
This also makes troubleshooting easier. If the image is wrong in CiCi Cam, fix the preset. If it is right in CiCi Cam but wrong in PRISM, check the source settings, crop, resolution, or duplicate effects.
Step 1: Create the look in CiCi Cam first
Open CiCi Cam and select your physical webcam. Build the look before opening or configuring PRISM.
Recommended order:
- Facial light and brightness
- Light skin smoothing
- Subtle makeup
- Conservative face refinement
- A color filter that matches your room or stream style
Do not judge the look only while sitting perfectly still. Turn your head, move your hands near your face, and test quick expressions. The best SOOP beauty filter is the one that stays natural while moving.
Step 2: Add CiCi Cam in PRISM Live Studio
In PRISM Live Studio, add a camera source:
- Open PRISM Live Studio.
- Choose the scene you want to use.
- Add a Video Capture Device or camera source.
- In the Device menu, select CiCi Cam.
- Adjust the crop, size, and position inside your scene.
Select the CiCi Cam virtual camera, not the physical webcam. If PRISM shows the raw camera feed, reopen the source settings and choose CiCi Cam from the device list.
Step 3: Avoid duplicate beauty filters
PRISM may also offer appearance effects or PRISM Lens features. Those can be useful, but combining multiple strong beauty layers can create an overly soft face, odd color, higher load, or confusing troubleshooting.

Before going live, check the whole path:
- CiCi Cam preview is live.

- The camera crop and aspect ratio are correct.
- Audio is in sync.
- Browser widgets and overlays are active.
- The final SOOP preview looks natural.
The final preview matters more than the standalone camera preview. Streaming compression, scene scaling, and lighting can change how the filter feels.
Troubleshooting PRISM + CiCi Cam
CiCi Cam does not appear in PRISM
Quit PRISM, open CiCi Cam, confirm the preview is running, then reopen PRISM. Also check operating-system camera permissions. On macOS, make sure camera extension approval is completed if prompted.
PRISM shows a black or frozen camera
Another app may be using the physical webcam. Close other camera apps, confirm CiCi Cam has a live preview, then refresh or recreate the PRISM Video Capture Device source.
The image is too soft
Turn off duplicate beauty effects first. Lower smoothing, reduce face shaping, and check whether PRISM Lens or another effect is also changing the image.
The stream lags
Test at 720p and 30 fps, disable duplicate effects, close unused sources, and record a short sample. Beauty processing, widgets, screen capture, and encoding all share system resources.
